ThornCrown Covenant Baptist Church

What’s in a name?

On December 2021, ThornCrown Covenant Baptist Church—where the Bible alone is the Word of God, and the Bible in its entirety is applied to all our faith and life—was born out of the conviction that sound doctrine grounds our piety and practice, all of which must be preached, taught, and applied in the local church. The church must buttress and be governed by the Truth (1 Timothy 3:15). We are a church that strives to be Biblical, reformed, historic, confessional, loving, discerning Christians who evangelize, stand firm in, and earnestly contend for, the Christian faith and the Gospel, which is the power of God unto salvation from sin and wrath (Rom 1:16, 5:9) by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone, based on the ultimate authority of Scripture alone, “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” through the “grace of the Lord Jesus, the love of God the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.”

As a Reformed Baptist church, we hold adamantly to the doctrine of sola Scriptura—that Scripture is the sole sufficient, certain, infallible and supreme rule for all of faith and life—and we regard the faithful creeds of the Christian church as well as the Reformation confessions and catechisms, particularly the Reformed Baptist standards, as sound comprehensions of what Scripture teaches, and as secondary standards subordinated to and derived from Scripture.

The name “ThornCrown Covenant” refers to the Covenant of Redemption, in which the triune God counseled from “eternity past” an eternal plan of redemption for His people, the universal, invisible church, the Bride of Christ. The Father in love elects them and gives them to the Son; the Son became flesh and dwelt among us to earn perfect righteousness and satisfy divine justice on their behalf by His life and death; and the Spirit regenerates, sanctifies, guides, convicts, and applies the redemption to them for whom Christ died. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose. Because those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers; and those whom He predestined, He also called; and those whom He called, He also justified; and those whom He justified, He also glorified” (Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬-‭30‬‬‬).

We use the Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) and New American Standard Bible (NASB) translations.
