Just like the devotees of the Federal Vision errors of yester-year did, contemporary defenders of John Piper are scouring the Puritans and Reformed theologians past and present desperately trying to find something, anything that might sound a little bit like what John Piper is saying.

It is simply incredible that some have attempted to defend Piper by claiming we have taken him out of context while at the same time citing other solid Reformed Theologians like Michael Horton, Francis Turretin and John Calvin, among others, out of context in order to defend Piper. The attempts to redefine what Piper teaches so as to make him sound more orthodox while at the same time redefining what other Reformed Theologians have taught so as to make them sound more like Piper is either a mark of poor scholarship or dishonesty.  

Among the most common Reformed Theologians to be cited out of context is Francis Turretin to which Pastor Hines recommends the book Justification by Francis Turretin for an accurate analysis of his thought.

In this episode of The Protestant Witness, Pastor Patrick Hines responds to John Piper's recent attempt to clarify his position on justification and final salvation. 

In this week’s episode, Timothy Kauffman continues with his discussion on the 2,300, the 1,290 and the 1,335 days of the 70th Week of Daniel. After summarizing our previous discussion on the 2,300 evening and mornings, and the 3 1/2 year period that was 1,290 days long, we proceed into a discussion the 1,335 days, and why there were an additional 45 days of difficulty for the Jews even after the 70 “weeks” were over, and the sanctuary had been cleansed and the altar had been rededicated. After completing the discussion on the 1,335 days, we turn our attention to Jesus’ warning in the gospels that the abomination of desolation foretold by Daniel would return within one generation. The abomination of desolation was a statue of Jupiter erected by Antiochus IV in 167 B.C., and within on generation of Jesus’ prophecy, the statue of Jupiter returned to Israel, and from that point the situation in Judæa began to deteriorate rapidly, just as Jesus had warned.

We find it remarkable that one of the main speakers at the Together for the Gospel Conference has been preaching a false Gospel and has not been called to account for this error. Paul warned the Ephesian Elders saying,

28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
29 I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock;
30 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.
31 Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears.
32 And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” - Acts 20:28-32

We know that, in this modern age, we are not immune to the threat of false teachers arising from among our own selves and speaking twisted things to draw away disciples after them. We therefore want to echo Paul in warning others to be alert and we want to commend our listeners to God and the word of his grace.
