SRR 42 Hanegraaff: Heresy, and Apostasy, and False Teaching, Oh My!

Join Tim, Carlos and Joseph Rios for a controversial episode, as they take a stand on this issue concerning the "Bible Answer Man." Listen in as Semper Reformanda Radio takes up the defense of Pulpit and Pen in how they called out Hank Hanegraaff and gives their perspective of heretics, apostates, and false teachers. Stay tuned until the end to find out why heretics win battles and hear how Paul the Apostle dealt with those who obscure the gospel. At 1 hour and 30 minutes into the episode, one of our member's states, I think we should be as charitable as the old testament says to be with people who lead people astray from God. At 1 hour and 33 minutes, another member mentions that they would stone false prophets to death and he goes on to explain how he believes that the punishment for those who bring a false gospel is far worse in the light of Galatians 1:6-11.

We need to make it clear that we are not Theonomist and do not believe that false teachers should be stoned as they were in the Old Testament. We must caution that under the Old Testament the Jewish nation could freely exercise the civil power of the sword. Tim Kauffman has pointed out that Roman Catholicism misunderstood the role of the church when it started using the civil sword against heretics starting in the latter part of the fourth century. He offers this caution to the three of us who participated in this episode. "I know the participants on the episode were being hyperbolic, but it almost came across as advocating corporal punishment for heretics. I would caution against such suggestions. It may not actually come across that way to the average listener. My ears are pretty finely tuned to the use of civil power by ecclesiastical authorities, and it never ends well, but I'm glad you came to the defense of Pulpit & Pen on this issue. Very important to stand firm." We thank him for his insight and wholeheartedly agree.

We would also like to congratulate Ryan Dozier on winning the set of books offered in last week's drawing. We also want to thank all those who participated and shared our episode. We hope to have more drawings in the future to show our appreciation for our listeners.

“Scripturalism—Christianity—is a whole view of things thought out together. It engages non-Christian philosophies on every field of intellectual endeavor. It furnishes a coherent theory of knowledge, an infallible salvation, a refutation of science, a theory of the world, a coherent and practical system of ethics, and the principles required for political liberty and justice. No other philosophy does.” (John Robbins, “An Introduction to Gordon H. Clark,” http://www.trinityfoundation.org/journal.php?id=192)

SRR 40 Roman Catholics and Their Queen Part 2

This week SRR welcomes Timothy F. Kauffman back to the show for the second part of our discussion of the Roman Catholic doctrine of Mary. Tim Shaughnessy begins by recounting his experience calling into the Bible Answer Man with Hank Hanegraaff and Tim Kauffman offers some helpful insight and perspective. Then the two dive into the Roman Catholic view of Mary as the Ark of the New Covenant. This may be an unfamiliar title of Mary for some Protestants, but it is very important to understand because from this Rome tries to establish Mary as the immaculate conception along with other erroneous doctrines. Tim Kauffman does a fantastic job of leading us in our discussion of the Roman Catholic arguments from scripture for their view and as always he shows us why they are wrong. As always we want to thank Tim Kauffman and recommend his blog whitehorseblog.com to our listeners.

SRR #36 | Disney Disappoints Us Again

Join Tim and Joseph as we discuss whether or not Christians should see the movie Beauty and the Beast. How should we think about these things and what does the Bible have to teach us. The Washington Post writes: “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston,” director Bill Condon told the magazine. “He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”

It is important to think Biblically about these issues. We are in the world but not of the world.

SRR 33 What Is the Deal with Lordship Salvation?

This week SRR welcomes Gary Edwards back to the show for an in-depth discussion of Lordship Salvation. Join us for another exciting episode as Carlos Montijo returns to the show to give his perspective on the issue. Also, learn what a cyber-turd is and how not to be one because Carlos may call you out. The discussion gets spicy as Carlos and Gary find themselves disagreeing about repentance and faith. Fortunately, nobody has to be called a heretic in this episode. Rather it is a great example of brothers engaging in fruitful productive dialogue. Thank you for tuning in this week.

SRR #32 | Roman Catholics and The Mass Part 2

This week SRR welcomes Tim Kauffman back to the show for another in-depth discussion of the Roman Catholic Mass. Both Tim Shaughnessy and Tim Kauffman have been converted out of Roman Catholicism and now regard the Mass as an abomination. Those are strong words to use so tune in and find out why the Catholic church is in grave error regarding this issue. Tim Kauffman addresses the criticism that we are being hateful and bashing the Roman Catholics. In Roman Catholics and Mass part, 1 Tim Kauffman met the "sacrifice challenge" head on and demonstrated from scripture and history that the Catholic Church is holding to a late 4th-century novelty. Join us in today's episode as we continue to look at what the early Church leaders taught as Tim Kauffman continues to dismantle the Catholic position.Questions? Comments? Feedback? SRR 31 Is Peter Christian Heretical

This week SRR welcomes Gary Edwards to the show for an in-depth discussion of the last two episodes with Peter Christian. In this episode, we ask whether or not Peter himself is heretical and we apply the command given in Romans 16:17, "Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them." We also talk about Justification, Sanctification and the thief on the cross. We maintain that regeneration precedes faith and that works are not part of faith but rather are a consequence of saving faith. Gary Edwards has dealt with Peter Christian before and has this to say:

"I encourage all Grace Book [Gary's Facebook page] members to mark and be extremely worried about the behavior and false and wild claims of Peter Christian. This young man says that anyone who believes in progressive sanctification is a heretic and false convert. I asked him to answer a few questions in relation to a debate he had on a podcast below, to which he has come out attacking me like a savage dog, telling all sorts of lies. Please, Church, do not follow this young man's teaching, he is an infant in the faith, if even, and shouldn't be gathering so much attention. He believes that if you believe in paedobaptism, you are not in the faith! He believes if you believe in progressive sanctification, you are not in the faith! He believes that if you are wrong in any facet of the doctrines of Grace (lack knowledge), for him, the 5 points of Calvinism (to which he also is very confused by the way), you are not in the faith (neo-gnostic)! He believes that if you don't condemn the likes of John McArthur, Paul Washer, and Steve Lawson, you are conforming to easy believers, and therefore not in the faith! I asked him to answer these questions in relation to this poor debate (due to no fault from Bible ThumpingWingnut), attached below: "I have asked Peter to answer these questions, to help understand exactly who he is condemning as heretical. I think it is important to give him a chance to explain clearly how and all he puts into this LS basket and does he judge all heretical who doesn't believe what he believes here: Peter, can I ask you a couple of questions, please!? (1). Do you present any theological difference from those who teach progressive sanctification and those who teach LS? (2). Are these words synonymous in your understanding? (3). Do you believe that anyone who teaches progressive sanctification is heretical? (4). Do you believe anyone who teaches LS is heretical? Obviously depending on how you answer some of these questions will determine whether or not these questions seem repetitive to you. I ask these with respect, trying to understand exactly what way you view these issues. Thank you, Peter Gospel blessings"

Peter has since blocked me [Gary] and is blocking others, yet going all over the Web with this terrible theology! Peter needs to be brought to account on this, not defended, or marked as a wolf and avoided at all cost."

Since we released episode 29 Peter has to block Tim and Joseph on Facebook and has discontinued all discussion. At this point, we calling Peter Christian out and warning people away from his ministry.

SRR 30 Is Paul Washer a Heretic (2)

This week SRR welcomes back to the show Peter Christian for another discussion on why he accuses Paul Washer, John MacArther, and Steve Lawson of being heretical. SRR and all of the representatives of this podcast do not agree with Peter assessment of these men. We believe that Peter makes multiple category errors and misrepresents his opponents. He confuses the evidence of salvation with the means of salvation and falsely accuses Washer, MacArther, and Lawson of adding works to the gospel. We attempt to point this out to Peter in the discussion. As we pointed out last week Peter Christian does a podcast out of Canada called Grace Hour Radio and is building a following of devoted listeners. Since our last episode, Peter has block Tim on facebook and has discontinued all discussion. At this point, we are not recommending Peter or his ministry to our listeners as we do not think he is teaching sound doctrine.

SRR 29 Is Paul Washer a Heretic

This week SRR welcomes Peter Christian to the show and asks him to defend his recent comments that Paul Washer, John MacArther, and Steve Lawson are heretical. Peter Christian does a podcast out of Canada called Grace Hour Radio and is building a following of devoted listeners. What starts out a discussion in this episode turns into a lively debate as Peter attempts to explain why he doesn't believe anyone can be saved without embracing the five points of Calvinism known by the acronym TULIP. It is interesting to point out that in this episode Peter states that there is no condition for salvation and appears to be confusing that with unconditional election. Peter makes multiple category errors and we may have to address some of it at a later time. At this point, we are not recommending Peter or his ministry to our listeners as we do not think he is teaching sound doctrine. Questions? Comments? Feedback? SRR #27 | Have I Then Become Your Enemy

SRR welcomes Andrew Rappaport to the show this week as Tim and Andrew discuss the difficult task of sharing our faith with those who are closest to us. They open up about personal experiences and share insight into the word of God which calls us to be faithful even when others want us to remain silent. Tim extends an open invitation to his own family, who is predominantly Roman Catholic, to have an open, respectful dialogue about matters of the faith. Many times people equate disagreement with hatred and as Christians, we are called to love those who misunderstand us, falsely accuse us, revile against us, and even persecute us. We would like to give special thanks to Andrew Rappaport for having such a difficult conversation in the hopes of encouraging other believers. SRR #26 | The Sin of Being Ecumenical

Join Tim and Joseph as they discuss whether or not Christians should partner with Roman Catholics. Is this a compromise of spiritual warfare in for a cultural warfare and if so then is it a sin. Both Tim and Joseph weigh in on an event that took place in July of 2016 called "Together 2016" which was an ecumenical effort to bring Catholics and Evangelicals together under one banner in order to effect cultural change. Included in the list of prominent speakers was Ravi Zacharias and Francis Chan along with Pope Francis. This episode also includes a lecture by John Robbins titled “Bleating Wolves, Evangelicals and Catholics Together" series under Collection 3: The Gospel and Its Critics. Enjoy!

SRR would like to welcome Joseph Rios to the team. Join Tim and Joseph this week as they discuss the debate between Matt Slick and JD Hall. Tim and Joseph give their perspective regarding the charismatic gifts and whether or not they have ceased. Tim also explains why it is fallacious to appeal to something coming to pass as a demonstration for the gift of prophecy. A broken clock can be right twice a day. In the second half of the episode, they take on the issue of "once saved always" and address whether or not it is possible for a person to lose their salvation.

If you find yourself in a church that is driving by man-centered theology you ought to be concerned.
